Zenit St Petersburg is favoured to get the job done vs Malaga and that’s something that many teams have probably been telling themselves is going to ring true. Yet, Malaga tops a very difficult Champions League group after stringing together a fantastic series of results. They are 7/2 to get the away win against Zenit’s 8/11 price tag. The 11/4 draw would probably suffice for the Spanish side, but these tricky away games in Russia have proven to be difficult in the past for many sides.
The price on Malaga is a pretty good one and you do reckon a few neutrals will be sure to have a punt - particularly if they go on the drift before the match.
Borussia Dortmund are expected to get the job done against Ajax today and the bookmakers have them trading at a 5/6 listing for the away win. Ajax trade at 16/5 and that’s a pretty good price on a favourable betting scenario - a home underdog against a side who already look likely to go through to the next stage.
Porto are the biggest favourites of the day, going into their fixture with a slim 1/7 price tag against Dinamo Zagreb. The Croatians are a massive 20/1 and there may be a few people willing to take that price with a serious upset in mind.
Manchester City face off against Real Madrid in what looks to be the champagne fixture of the day. City have a small chance of getting out of the group - the most they can hope for is to finish on 8 points and that would require Real Madrid and Ajax losing both of their next games.
Real Madrid are, understandably, the betting favourites for this one despite being the visitors. They trade at 13/10 while City are 19/10 and the draw trades at a 5/2 listing. That’s a fairly good betting match and one gets the feeling that it might be a good fixture for in-play wagering, getting a few extra minutes to size up the scenario and see where the gaps in defense are likely to be.
Cristiano Ronaldo to score and Real Madrid to win trades at a slim 2/1.
Schalke are the 4/9 favourites against Olympiacos, who trade at a 13/2 price for their Champions League fixture. It’s also worth looking at Arsenal with their 2/5 price against Montpellier at 15/2. This is a must-win match for Arsenal and, though the price isn’t fantastic, it may be a factor on quite a few accumulator tickets.
Speaking of accumulators, let’s go with a draw in the Zenit/Malaga game x Arsenal x Man City x Porto at 16/1
