Weekend Premier League Betting Action
The highlight of this weekend's football is undoubtedly the Merseyside derby taking place on Saturday lunchtime. Everton will be keen to make up for the fact that Liverpool did the double over them last term, but history is not on their side with Everton having only beaten Liverpool three times in the last 20 league meetings between the clubs. In light of this it is difficult to have much confidence in Everton's chances of taking all three points, but aside from the victory over Manchester United, Liverpool have been less than impressive so far this term in the manner of their victories. I am a big fan of David Moyes' team, but the number of goals they are conceding at the moment is worrying to say the least, they will need to ensure that Robbie Keane and Fernando Torres are not gifted any chances, as they will undoubtedly be punished. That said, I think that a back of the draw at around the 9/4 mark is a fair price. I would double this up with a punt on the 0-0 at betfair's current price of 10/1.Saturday's evening match-up is between Arsenal and Phil Brown's Hull side, I can see no reason to oppose the Gunners here but they are such heavy odds on that you would need to part with a sizable amount to see a decent return. As such, I would far rather back Arsene Wenger's side to win to nil at 4/5 with Paddy Power.Portsmouth take on Spurs in the pick of Sunday's action and as much as I am aware that backing Tottenham away from home is fraught with danger, Canbet are laying 17/1 about a 2-0 victory for the Lilywhites and that looks tempting. They beat Newcastle in midweek, which will give them a massive psychological boost going into the weekend, and I think it is just a matter of time before they start moving up the table. The final live match of the weekend is a meeting of two Manchester United old boys in Steve Bruce and Mark Hughes. The 6-0 thrashing of Portsmouth by the latter's charges has led many pundits to begin making bold predictions about the potential of City to break into the top four next season, if not this term. Admittedly Hughes has got this clutch of expensive foreign talent playing great football, with Robinho and Jo in particular looking potent attacking threats. There is a good blend of home grown talent mixed in with these imports and the likes of Stephen Ireland, Micah Richards, and Michael Johnson are really blossoming in playing alongside such talent.Having said all of this, Wigan have really been the surprise package of the season so far for me, and even when beaten they have played great football and been unlucky in the process. At 12/5 with Skybet they are my bet of the weekend, until they get beaten 6-0 and I deny I ever fancied them at all! Recommendations:Everton v Liverpool - Draw - 9/4 (General)Arsenal to beat Hull 'to nil' - 4/5 Paddy PowerTottenham beat Portsmouth 2-0 - 17/1 CanbetWigan beat Man City - 12/5 (Skybet)
