WERDER BREMEN FAVOURITES TO DOWN TOTTENHAM- NEWS AND BETTING PREDICTIONS

German football giants Werder Bremen head into today's enthralling Champions League clash with Tottenham as slim favourites.
The game is huge from a Spurs perspective, as it highlights the team's debut season in the competition, and one that if goes well, could change the entire landscape of the 'Top 4'.
Spurs head into the clash on the back of a mediocre weekend performance, with a distinctly conservative field setting. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is ready to play it safe away by fielding a lone striker and a five-man midfield, on the fear that if too bold, Tottenham will suffer a mauling the likes of England at the hands of Germany circa- World Cup 2010
Redknapp's mindset behind this formation was underlined with his comment earlier in the week whereby he stated; "If you play 4-4-2, you've got a problem in the middle of the park and it’ll be very difficult; you'll get overrun, a little bit like England did against Germany.''
Paddypower offer the pick of the bookies- with odds on a Werder Bremen win at 2.25 to Tottenham's 3.25. William Hill offers the draw at 3.4- a touch better than the competition.
Captain Ledley King returns after being rested for Saturday's 1-1 Barclays Premier League draw at West Brom
On the goal scorer front things get rather interesting.
For Bremen- Claudio Pizarro is tops to open the scoring at 6.0, with him scoring at anytime set at 2.25- equal to that of striker Marko Arnautovic. Bremen were lethal in attack in last year’s Bundesliga competition, and one would fancy them to breach the Spurs defence tonight
On the Spurs front William Hill have Roman Pavlyuchenko as odds on to find the back of the net at 2.87, with Irishman Robbie Keane coming in at 3.0. If the German crowd are to bear witness to 'the robot' in the form of Peter Crouch, they will be doing so at odds of 3.0
With all the talent in the world it is very much up to which Spurs side rock up for this encounter. To say this team blow hot and cold is the understatement of the year, as seen by their loss to Swiss contingent Young Boys, followed by an emphatic victory only a week later
On the goals scored prediction front, a 1-0 Werder Bremen is set by William Hill at 10.0, with a 1-1 draw at 7.5. Taking advantage of Spurs current dip in form see's a 1-0 win in their favour at 12, with a 2-0 win at 19.0!
Werder scored a ton of goals last season in their domestic league so a high scoring affair is not out of the question with a 3-2 win at 23.0. However, one also need sot realise that this is no longer domestic football...it is a matchup of two international and quality sides, challenging for arguably the most coveted club title in the world.
Drama is also on the cards tonight with many hoping to see William Gallas, who made the controversial decision to cross the north London divide last month, face his former Arsenal team-mate Mikael Silvestre.
All in all this could turn into a rather defensive display from Spurs, while at the same time Werner Bremen will seek to attack and capitalise on a defence, that they hope, will be intimated by the sense of occasion associated with Spurs first competitive game in the league.
