Westwood looking to double up
They say that it is nigh-on impossible to win back-to-back tournaments in golf but Lee Westwood has an excellent chance of bucking the trend by winning his second Dunhill Links title. Westwood has rediscovered his game this year after going back to basics, dispensing with his long-game tuition in February in favour of practising with his father. The policy paid off immediately with a win at the Andalusian Open in May before a bedding in period eventually led to improved results in September, for which he has thanked former pro Mark Roe, who has advised him on his short game, culminating in his British Masters win two weeks' ago. The week off will have done the Englishman the world of good as will memories of his 2003 win in a tournament that incorporates the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. Since that victory Westwood has come fifth, seventh and eighth and the invigorated 34-year-old can make the most of the 15/1 offered by Stan James and Bet365. While Westwood sidestepped the Seve trophy last week Bradley Dredge was once again excelling for Great Britain and Ireland and as top points scorer for his side is well-placed to make a mockery of his 33/1 price. The Welshman has claimed two top-four finishes in his last three singles tournaments and came second to Padraig Harrington here last year. The Open winner is the clear favourite having already won this title twice but those looking for value could do worse than back Zane Scotland. The 25-year-old has made giant strides this year and, after coming fourth at the Belfry a fortnight ago, could reap huge each-way dividends at 125/1 with Coral if he manages a repeat performance. Verdict: 2pts Westwood e/w @ 15/1 (Stan James, Bet365); 2pts Dredge e/w @ 33/1 (General); 1pt Scotland @ 125/1 (Coral)
