Who will win the Superbowl XL?
Arizona haven't made the playoffs since 1998. They've had losing records 15 of the past 17 seasons, including a 6-10 mark last year after Dennis Green said the team would win 10 games. The Cardinals have gone 57 years without a championship.Based on the above information - Paddy Power, VC Bet and William Hill look to be perfectly justified in ranking the Cardinals as one of the rank outsiders for the forthcoming NFL season. At the time of writing 80/1 is available. Putting the history of the organisation to one side for a moment, the modern day NFL is all about equality and that means any franchise is capable of going all the way. Last season San Diego Charges were the main surprise, the year before Carolina Panthers, and even New England Patriots a few years ago were considered no hopers by many before they went onto beat St.Louis Rams in Super Bowl.Arizona might just be the surprise for 2005/06 and are worth backing at a massive 80/1 each-way for Super Bowl. The NFC West is not a strong division as last term showed when Seattle won with a 9-7 record, and St.Louis received a wild-card after finishing 8-8. Until the final few weeks, Arizona weren't totally out the picture. While the Cardinals appear to have made improvements, Seattle and St.Louis have question marks against them. The Seahawks are rebuilding their defence, while the Rams aren't getting any younger and have a creaking offensive line. The Arizona defence ranked 12th last year and should be improved this season with former defensive end Chike Okeafor joining Bert Berry, giving the Cardinals a respectable pass rush. The secondary should be upgraded with the addition of Robert Griffith and first-round draft pick, cornerback Antrell Rolle. The offense has three promising young wide receivers - Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald and Bryant Johnson - plus J.J. Arrington, who just might have the biggest impact of any rookie running back this season. At quarterback is former MVP Kurt Warner who despite being benched in New York last season led the Giants to 5-4 with a poor offensive line, and inadequate wide receivers. What is interesting to note is despite many bookmakers offering half the price for St.Louis in the main SuperBowl market, the Rams are given the same chance by many firms of winning the NFC West as Arizona. The advice is an each-way punt on the Cardinals at what could look an absolutely massive price come play-off time.
