Wigan vs Chelsea Betting tips

After a couple of stutters, the Chelsea show appears to be back on the road. And, according to the bookmakers, their momentum should see them lift a third successive Premiership title come what May. Indeed, Mourinho's men are as short as 8/15 with Stan James to achieve this momentous feat.On Saturday the Blues have the late kick-off slot as they travel to the JJB to tackle Wigan, who currently occupies a respectable mid-table position, albeit there isn't much between them and West Ham who are third from bottom, but they certainly don't look like relegation material, that's for sure. Considering that both Jimmy Fullard and Jason Roberts departed during the summer, two of The Latics' most influential players last season, they've done extremely well. And few will forget the fight they put up against Chelsea in this fixture last term, a game in which the visitors were kept at bay until a 90th-minute Hernan Crespo wonder-strike settled the issue. There is a degree of vulnerability about Chelsea while on their travels. Both of their defeats this season, against Boro and latterly Spurs, came in away fixtures, and although they emerged victorious from Goodison Park last weekend, they had to come from behind on two occasions against an under-strength Everton side.It may seem like a case of clutching at straws, because no-one can deny the fact that Chelsea have an innate ability to grind out results even when it's very much against the run of play. But there will be instances, as there already has been during the current campaign, when Lady Luck doesn't shine on the "Special One's" men. Or when Didier Drogba isn't able to produce a moment of magic, as he has been with ruthless efficiency of late, including when grabbing the match-winner against Newcastle in the Carling Cup in midweek and against Everton last Sunday. However, for all the tenacity with which Paul Jewel's men will no doubt approach this encounter, I doubt that there will be any slip-ups for the Blues. Wigan have lost their last three at the JJB and, with Chelsea gathering momentum - and mindful that they cannot afford to lose ground to United - I'd be surprised to see the visitors drop points in this fixture. Naturally, though, there isn't much mileage in backing them at a best-priced 4/9 in the match result market.I might be wrong, but I have a sneak suspicion that there will be plenty of goals in this game. Admittedly, there was only one goal scored in each of the fixtures between these two sides last season, but I reckon this clash will break the mould, as it's towards the mid-point of the season and both have plenty to play for. At 11/4 with bet365, I recommend taking a chance on 4+ in the total goals market. Let's pray for goals galore!
