William Hill Lincoln Racing Tips (this Saturday)
While Doncaster, the spiritual home of the William Hill Lincoln, is undergoing redevelopments, this season's annual cavalry charge, the traditional curtain-raiser to the turf Flat season, will take place at Redcar on Saturday. Following Stream of Gold's emphatic victory in last year's renewal, it is understandable that the bookies are not taking any chances with his charge, ante-post favourite King's Majesty, although the top price of 13/2 (as short as 4/1 in a place) about the four-year-old is way too skinny in my opinion. Naturally, as a lightly-raced, potential improver trained by Stoute, he merits plenty of respect. However, he hasn't raced on ground riding slower than good - Saturday's going is forecast to be soft, good to soft in places - and he is actually 3lb worse off with Kamanda Laugh compared to when beaten a head by that rival at Newmarket last September, yet the latter is a tempting 16/1 with totesport. Kamanda Laugh was having his first start for trainer Kevin Ryan since joining from Barry Hills's yard when chasing home three-and-a-half-length scorer Border Music over seven furlongs at Wolverhampton on March 11, which was an excellent effort considering that he was meeting the winner, who was rated 7lb superior, on level weights. The son of Most Welcome comes to hand early, relishes cut in the ground and his prominent style of racing means that he avoids the inevitable traffic problems that some of the hold-up performers experience in this type of event. All in all, he looks sure to make a bold bid. However, I'd also reccommed having a saver on Salamanca, who will also revel in the testing conditions, and hails from the in-form Sylvester Kirk yard. She isn't the most consistent of horses and does need things to drop just right - and her come from behind style does mean that she could meet with trouble in running. However, for a horse of her ability, the 33/1 offered by Blue Square is simply too good not to risk for a small each-way stake. The daughter of Pivotal ran some fine races in defeat in classy handicaps last term, and gained a deserved victory when coming from off the pace to land a Listed handicap confined to fillies and mares at Newmarket in September, form which stands up to the closest inspection. If in the same sort of mood on Saturday, her handicap mark of 98 will not be enougth to prevent her from going close. James Fanshawe's Cesare is lightly raced, acts on soft going and is in with a shout, along with the progressive Gentleman's Deal. Common World and Zero Tolerance are also proven in the mud and both have claims.
