WOLFSBURG VS MANCHESTER UNITED CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TIPS
Sir Alex Ferguson’s injury-depleted side have risen to a 4.0 price on Betfair for today’s fixture with Bundesliga winners Wolfsburg today in Germany. There is heavy volume on this match, with nearly $4,500,000 matched three hours before kick-off. Wolfsburg have drifted down to around the 2.1 mark with the draw available at a 3.55 price.
Many punters are piling onto United losing by a considerable margin, a fact exacerbated by their lack of first-choice defenders. You’ll find that Patrice Evra is the only first-team specialist defender who isn’t out crocked. There has been talk that Fergie will be drafting in Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick as his central midfield pairing with Park Ji-Sung at left-back. United are a massive 5.0 to keep a clean sheet in this match.
Personally, I think that Wolsburg’s overconfidence could really go against them here. I think that their strikers Edin Dzeko and Grafite think that this will be a walk in the park, but when players play out of position they can occasionally spring a real surprise. United boasts a team of complete footballers and, if they are playing with a makeshift defence, they will certainly deploy at least one holding midfielder to stifle Wolfsburg through the middle of the park. Also keep in mind that Tomasz Kuszczak has been playing in beast mode for the past few matches and I’m a lot more confident with him in net at the moment than Ben Foster.
The only thing that I think could really go against Man United is conceding a penalty. With so much emphasis placed on the makeshift defenders, the situation could get to them and they may very well wind up making a mistake.
In terms of the half-time/full-time betting, United are 7.6 to win both halves while Draw/United trades at a massive 10.5. Wolfsburg are 3.8 to win both halves and draw/Wolfsburg pays out at 5.5. Should Wolfsburg hold the lead at half-time but United manage a win, you’re looking at a massive 42.0.
Personally, I think United may make much more of a match of this than many will give them credit for. I like them to win at this price, and a gutsy performance from certain players may help them get more starts. Keep your eyes on Darron Gibson to score anytime at 7.2 and the long-forgotten Nani is listed at 7.0 and he may even get a start today- his first since criticizing Sir Alex. If you don’t see him named in the team today, you can assume he will be gone in January.
