WOLVES VS LIVERPOOL PREMIER LEAGUE BETTING TIPS
After recording a somewhat fortuitous victory last week against Spurs at home, Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool side travel to Wolverhampton for a go at Mick McCarthy’s relegation candidates.
Rumours abound that Steven Gerrard will play in this match, but top striker Fernando Torres remains out with injury for the next few weeks. Regardless, Liverpool are the strong 7/10 favourites here with Wolves trading at 9/2 against a 12/5 price for the draw.
This doesn’t look to be a particularly high-scoring affair, but Liverpool will likely stay quiet for the first 20 minutes or so before they ratchet up the pressure on the home side. Look for them to play strong down the flanks and attempt to get in behind Wolves. If they can penetrate that space and control the channels, then I think they have a great chance at the victory. What Liverpool don’t want is for Wolves to cause problems with long-balls, as that’s where I believe their goals will come from.
If you think Liverpool are going to thump Wolves, try backing them on the handicap. You’ll find Liverpool (-1.0) trading at a solid 2/1- that’s a much better price than the 7/10 currently on offer for the outright result. Face it, if Liverpool win it will likely be by two goals or more. They are 9/5 to be leading at the end of both halves, but I find they can sometimes start a bit slow so I would suggest Draw/Liverpool at 10/3. Wolves/Liverpool is well-priced at 25/1 and that’s not out of the question in my book. Should Liverpool start slow and ship an early goal they may get frustrated before a tactical shift at half-time. Liverpool are a solid 1/2 to score first with Wolves trading at 2/1.
Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard are the favoured goalscorer with a 5/4 price anytime. David Ngog is gaining confidence and trades at 6/4. Maxi Rodriguez can be backed at 12/5 while Ryan Babel sits at 11/4. Albert Riera is back and looking well and he trades at 7/2. Alberto Aquilani is at 4/1 for anyone interested in backing him to score. That’s not a bad tip here, as he looked quite good playing off the striker in his last encounter as opposed to the more central role he has been deployed in previously.
For Wolves, it’s all about Kevin Doyle at 12/5 and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake at 11/4. Stefan Maierhofer and Chris Iwelumo trade at 3/1.
This match is definitely Liverpool’s to win, but (as odds as this may sound) Steven Gerrards return may actually work against them. If Wolves turn out a solid performance then we could certainly have a game on our hands. Liverpool don’t want to lose this one, though, and I fancy them for the victory.
