WOODS FAVOURITE IN US PGA CHAMPIONSHIP BETTING
Tiger Woods showed just why he is widely considered to be the greatest player to ever pick up a golf club with a solid opening round in the US PGA Championship. Woods hit rock bottom with his game last week when he carded an 18-over-par tournament score at the Bridgestone Invitational, a performance which saw his odds reach an unprecedented high of 16/1 for a US PGA Championship victory.
The world number one opened his round with three birdies in the first four holes and showed that you just cannot keep a great player down. Three bogeys followed in the next 12 holes to show that he wasn’t yet back to his very best but a birdie on the 9th (his 18th) left him with his first under par round since The Open at St Andrews.
The score left many punters, myself included, kicking themselves for not taking a slice of the 16/1 on offer and he is now a best price of 10/1 with Skybet to win his 15th major at Whistling Straits this week.
In football transfer news Manchester City look to be stepping up the pace ahead of the start of the Premier League season tomorrow. Roberto Mancini has this morning admitted that he hopes to finalise the signings of both James Milner and Mario Balotelli in the next two to three days.
The stumbling block in the Milner deal appears to be Stephen Ireland’s request for a severance package from his current employers. Ireland is being offered as part of the deal which would take Milner to Eastlands but is said to be asking for £2million in compensation from his present employers, whilst the club are refusing to be held to ransom by the player’s demands.
