WORLD CUP 2010 GROUP A BETTING PREDICTIONS FOR FRIDAY

The Group A matches get us underway on Friday in the widely-anticipated 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The group itself is one of the biggest wildcards in the group stages as I consider France to be the most beatable favourite out of the eight first seeds.

I personally think they're going to get run and likely won't make it out of the group. Of course I may end up eating my words, but I think the odds on an upstart side like Uruguay are decent enough to justify that type of risk.

Uruguay trade at 3/1 to win Group A while France are just above even money at an 11/10 price. Mexico are favoured ahead of Uruguay with a 14/5 listing, but I've got questions about Mexico and their defensive solidity. South Africa would be one of the first host sides in a long time not to qualify for the next stage, but I personally don't see them getting through. They are 2/5 to not qualify while they are a solid 11/8 to finish dead last in Group A with popular bookmaker Blue Square.
In regards to the forecast betting, Uruguay/France pays out at 7/1 while Uruguay/Mexico is a whopping 14/1. I think that's definitely worth a bet, or you can take the dual forecast and back Uruguay and Mexico in either order at a 6/1 price.
In regards to the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, the bookies are giving Mexico a slight edge a 6/4 price with South Africa listed at 9/5. The draw is priced at 11/5 and that's not out of the question.
Javier Hernandez is favoured to score anytime at 6/4 while Giovani Dos Santos trades at 11/4 to score anytime. For South Africa, they'll be looking to Katlego Mphela in front of goal at 7/4 and Steven Pienaar in midfield. Pienaar from outside the box trades at 16/1.
Mexico are more likely to dominate the game, but if South Africa can keep the pressure up, they may be able to give the Mexicans a shock.
The Uruguay vs France match is extremely interesting and that's where I'll find out if my prediction that Uruguay is one of the outside bets for this tournament comes true or not. The value is certainly there with the South American side at 13/5 and France at 11/10. Diego Forlan is 6/4 to score anytime and 18/1 to score in both halves. Luis Suarez is deadly as well and he's priced at 2/1 anytime.
France have Thierry Henry trading at 6/4 anytime while Franck Rivery is listed at a 2/1 price.
I think Uruguay take this one and France will definitely score, I expect Uruguay's strikeforce to overwhelm the French defenders. I think a 3-2 result may be worth a bet. Blue Square has that priced at 50/1.
