WORLD CUP 2010 GROUP A ODDS AND BETTING TIPS
The South Africa vs Mexico fixture is going to be the official kick-off of the 2010 World Cup and it can be pretty easy to overlook what a fascinating group this one really is. France go in as the favourites, having just sneaked qualification via handball over Ireland. The general consensus is that France shouldn’t even be here, but they are favourites to win their group and that’s nothing to sneeze at.
Personally, I think this one is absolutely wide open with France listed at 6/5 to win while Mexico are considered the 2nd favourite at 11/4 while Uruguay trade at 16/5 to win Group A. South Africa are a lengthy 11/2 to pull off an unlikely group win. I wouldn’t say its impossible for the Bofana Bofana, but they will need other results to go their way here.
Mexico get just the slightest of edges ahead of Uruguay to qualify out of the group stage. You’ll find Mexico at an odds-on price of 10/11 while Uruguay trade at 11/10. Personally, I think that Uruguay have a bit more firepower than Mexico and I would not be surprised to see Uruguay go through or even top the group. France are a slim 2/7 to go through while South Africa can be backed at 15/8.
Group forecast betting is available and France/Mexico is the favoured outcome at a 4/1 price while France/Uruguay is just a step behind at 9/2. France/South Africa is at 6/1 while Mexico/France is an interesting bet at 13/2. I have a feeling that Uruguay/Mexico is very well-priced at 14/1. This is a great bet for Irish fans looking to bet against France.
South Africa are the understandable favourites to finish bottom and you’ll find them at 5/4 while Uruguay are at 5/2. Mexico trade at 3/1 to low-roll the group while France are priced at 6/1.
William Hill has also listed a Tournament winners group and it’s interesting to note that Group A is the least likely group for a winner to emerge from. You’ll find that available at 11/1 and that’s an indication of how wide open this group really is. On their day, any team in this group can beat any other team (yes South Africa can beat France- on their day) so while it’s a tricky one to wager on, I’m tempted to back Uruguay to win Group A.
