WORLD CUP 2010 GROUP D LATEST ODDS AND BETTING TIPS
Group D is going to be a really competitive one and those who enjoy backing favourites will be able to secure one of the best prices in the tournament on a group favourite. Germany are favoured to high-roll Group D and William Hill has priced them at 5/6 to do so. I think that’s about right, but there are more question marks than ever over top of that German side. Personally, I think they’re a lock to qualify, but a slip-up may see Serbia top the group.
The Serbs are a talented and technical side that are difficult to play against at the best of times. They are priced out at 3/1 to win the group and that’s very plausible- one of the most competitive prices on a 2nd place team to win a group in the entire tournament. Ghana don’t look the same side without the powerhouse Michael Essien and his loss will cast quite a shadow over top of the Black Stars. They are 9/2 to go through as group winners.
Australia were dealt a supremely unfair blow losing to Italy thanks to a blatant dive in the last World Cup. They could be a real threat again here and if they can get a result against Serbia, they’ll be well-priced to progress. They are 7/1 to win the group, but that may be a bit ambitious. However, if rumours of an impending German implosion are as true as some might think, then a few punters who dropped a patriotic bet on the Aussies will be extremely pleased.
In regards to qualification odds, Serbia are at 10/11 while Ghana are priced at 5/4. Australia are listed at 2/1 with Germany the heavy favourites at 1/5. If you’re looking to bet against qualification, Germany are 10/3 not to progress, while Serbia are at 4/5 and Ghana are priced at 4/7. Australia are at 4/11 to not make it out of the group.
In fact, the Aussies are listed at 5/4 to finish bottom and Ghana are at 2/1. Serbia are priced at 3/1 and Germany are 9/1 to finish rock-bottom.
The preferred outcome in regards to the group forecast is looking like Germany/Serbia at a 3/1 price. Germany/Ghana is at 7/2 while Serbia/Germany looks more likely at 6/1 and Germany/Australia is at the same price.
Germany are the key variable here and if they drop their first match, then this group is well and truly game on.
