WORLD CUP 2010 TOP GOALSCORER ODDS SHOW DIEGO FORLAN IN POLE POSITION

With every team having played their first matches (and two teams having played their second) the competition for the 2010 World Cup Golden Boot is definitely underway. The current betting favourite is tied between Uruguay's Diego Forlan, fresh off a 2 goal performance against host side South Africa.

Popular UK bookmaker William Hill has priced Forlan at 8/1 to score more goals than anyone else in the 2010 World Cup- a price that places him alongside the presumed best player in the world Lionel Messi of Argentina.
Germany's Miroslav Klose can be backed at a 10/1 price while Englands Wayne Rooney is now trading at around 11/1. He was scoreless in his first match but that's because all the good chances fell to Emile Heskey- likely due to the fact that Rooney kept dropping deep to get his feet on the ball. I think a switch to a 4-5-1 is probably going to sort out that issue, but I think Capello will only switch to that in the Group Stages.
Luis Fabiano of Brazil is also scoreless and he's trading at a 12/1 price, but I get the feeling that he's not a great bet as Brazil tend to use him to hold up the ball or knock it down as opposed to actually taking chances himself. Robin Van Persie is also available at 12/1 and Spain's Fernando Torres trades at 14/1.
Lukas Podolski of Germany is available at 16/1 while the impressive-looking Robinho trades at 20/1. You'll also find Elano of Brazil and Cacau of Germany trading at an identical price.
Cristiano Ronaldo is listed at 25/1.
Personally, I think that one hat-trick turns this market upside down. At this point, the big aspect to getting this one to pay off is to pick the player on the team that goes the furthest into the tournament. It's pretty tough to get the golden boot if your team doesn't make it to the semi-finals, but when you factor in that we've only seen a handful of goals so far- you get the feeling that this market is still there for the taking.
