Holland vs Argentina will have every chance of being a swashbuckling affair but if the Dutch approach the first 45 minutes like they did the opening half of their quarter final match then we could really be in for a bit of a bore. It wasn’t beautiful stuff early but it became very exciting late - particularly as Louis Van Gaal continued his managing masterclass this summer by making an unexpected substitution in bringing on Tim Krul to face the Costa Rican penalty takers - he wound up guessing right on four of the kicks and saved two of them - getting his fingertips to one of the others as well.
Argentina have been relying on Messi significantly and you wonder if they might struggle should Holland be able to shackle the player who is having a career-defining World Cup.
