WTA FRENCH OPEN BETTING TIPS, THE RUSSIANS IN ACTION
The reigning queen, Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova leads the Russian charge at the French Open today when she takes on Andrea Petkovic in the second round. Also featuring on the tennis betting card today is Maria Kirilenko and Elena Dementieva, respectively.
William Hill’s tennis betting menu goes over and above the requisite markets on this trio, with over 35 options. Simply put, an unparalleled selection of markets, which leave nothing to the imagination, is just a mouse click away.
Svetlana Kuznetsova’s second round encounter looms potentially dangerous. Kuznetsova, 1/10 favourite, is level 1-1 lifetime against Andrea Petkovic, a mere 6/4 puppy. The pair split two meetings in 2009, with Sveta winning the only clay court encounter between them.
Significantly, both matches were three set affairs, indicating Petkovic has the kind of game to vex Sveta, even potentially upset her – which would be the biggest upset on the women’s side of the game.
Making such an upset a real possibility is the fact that Sveta is off-form this season. After advancing into the second round, she improved her term mark to 9-9. It helps that she won her opening match against Sorana Cirstea, a quarterfinalist at the French Open last year, convincingly, dropping only four games.
Still, Petkovic at 6/4 appears to be too tempting a play to ignore.
Maria Kirilenko is a 1/5 favourite to overcome Yvonne Meusburger 10/3. Masa started the season with a big bang when she took out the other, more infamous, Masa (Maria Sharapova to those who don’t know her by her nickname) in Melbourne and pushed all the way to the quarters. She backed up her win over Sharapova with a second round win over Meusburger, ironically.
Since her Melbourne heroics though she hasn’t mustered much to rave about and this perceptible dip in form could be detrimental – in the long run but perhaps not in this upcoming match. Masa should advance over Meusburger with ease.
Finally, Elena Dementieva brings up the rear of the Russian advance when she takes on Anabel Medina Garrigues later today. Dementieva is tipped as the 1/3 favourite while Medina Garrigues is the 9/4 puppy.
The market is rather tight in this match and that is down to a concerning dip in form for the Russian in recent weeks. Dementieva, 21-8 on the term, hasn’t won back-to-back matches since falling to Justine Henin in the second round of Miami 6-3, 6-2. She has floundered from tournament to tournament, match-to-match.
Anabel Medina Garrigues is not the type of player one would expect to orchestrate an upset on merit alone, but when her opponent is having an existential crisis of sorts, anything can happen. Bearing in mind it is a long shot, she is still a rather tempting option at 9/4 don’t you think?
