WTA ROLAND GARROS BETTING TIPS SERENA WILLIAMS GOES HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH SHAHAR PEER
The Roland Garros women’s singles fourth round clash between Serena William and Shahar Peer is an attention-worthy betting event at William Hill. Top British bookmaker William Hill has the world No.1 Serena trading at firm fave odds of 1/6 to win outright while Peer, is a 7/2 puppy for the upset.
Peer comes into the French Open on form, 27-10 on the season with highlights in Auckland, Hobart, Dubai, Indian Wells, Stuttgart and Madrid. This run of encouraging form adds shine to her market value and provides a tempting basis within the realm of reason on which punters can back her to victory.
But is an upset really forthcoming in this match? There has been no shortage of upsets in Paris but is the natural extension of that trend an upset that would send seismic shockwaves through the tournament, and markets as well.
Lifetime Peer is a telling 0-4 against Serena Williams. Significantly, she has only ever managed to take one set off the American in four meetings and nine sets played.
There are good reasons to back Peer, punters could do no worse than supporting a quality player as she is, but the truth of the matter is that beating Serena is going to be a tall order – if not nigh impossible.
I don’t see an upset on the cards but a competitive, three-set marathon: Peer to account admirably, in tune to her recent form and stretch Serena to the brink, but, Serena, as she is wont to do, to rally back to overcome her and snatch victory away dramatically.
Number of Sets In Match is trading at 2/7 for 2 Sets and at 11/5 for 3 Sets – the latter is the tempting bet.
To take the first and second sets is going for 2/9 to Serena and 3/1 to Peer. I quite like Peer to start strong and take the first set before Serena starts to rally back to win the second and third.
Set Betting markets favour Serena Williams at 1/2 to win in straight sets (2-0); a three-setter to Serena is an attractive 17/5 play.
Shahar Peer to pull off the convincing straight set upset is a large 7/1 bet while a three-set affair to Peer is just a tad larger at 15/2 bet.
Whichever way you slice this match there is value to be had on both camps. Serena is the bona fide favourite to win outright and nobody is about to dispute that score.
Peer might be slightly underestimated in the market, at least her odds are not entirely in proportion to her form. The reason for this is she has yet to come up big against Serena in her career or for that matter play against her as if she believes she can win, deserves to win. In lieu of this, her market value has been scaled up and she is a long shot bet.
