James Anderson gets a slim edge over Alastair Cook to be named as the man of the match for this fixture. The bookmakers have him priced at a tempting 8/1 to come out as the top man of the first test with Cook just a step behind at 9/1. Graeme Swann, Kevin Pietersen and Michael Clarke all trade at 10/1 prices.

There is also a really interesting market which is effectively a race to the first century. Alastair Cook is favoured at a 9/4 price while Jonathan Trott can be backed at a solid listing of 7/2. That’s not a bad wager but you reckon the first century will be handed to Kevin Pietersen if he can pull off these Ashes and maintain some solid form through the earlier part of the tournament.

Punters will find Pietersen trading at 9/2 to get the first century and that’s a very tempting wager. Joe Root can be backed at an identical price while Ian Bell is an interesting outside shot at 8/1.

Michael Clarke is well-favoured to get the first Australian century of the 2013 Ashes and the bookmakers have him priced at 2/1 to pull that off. Shane Watson can be backed at 4/1 and is an interesting option as well. Chris Rogers trades just ahead of David Warner with an 11/2 price edging out his 6/1.
