2013 Ashes Series Final Test Betting Tips Part 3
- By A.J. Ryder on August 23, 2013 00:28 GMTThe fall of the first English wicket is set at 65.5 and they will be needing the over, to keep both of their most talented batsmen at the crease as long as possible. Of the openers, Joe Root is favoured to be teh first man out and the bookmakers have him trading at a slim 4/6 price to do so. Cook is paying out at 11/10 while a catch is the favoured dismissal method and it trades at a short 1/2 listing.

Alastair Cook gets the edge as the top home batsmen and the bookmakers are favouring him with a slim 9/4 price while Joe Root trades at 10/3 and is the next best-priced contender. Jonathan Trott, who has had an admittedly quiet series, trades at a 9/2 listing. Kevin Pietersen can also be backed at 9/2 while Ian Bell - so crucial at important points during this series - can be backed at a 5/1 listing.
Ryan Harris is considered to be the most likely Aussie bowler to do the damage against the host side and you can back him at a 9/4 price while Peter Siddle is a 5/2 shot and Mitchell Starc can be backed at a 3/1 price.
Trott and Pietersen are not being favoured for particularly large totals here in this one and you can see that the over/unders for the respective players are set at a mere 33.5 for Kevin Pietersen and a 31.5 total for IJL Trott. Any English fan who expects both players to actually come good and put together a solid performance is going to do well to back both of those selections.
Taking a look at how well the Australians bowlers do with Joe Root and Alastair Cook is going to affect the price the most. If the pair combine for 150+ then it’s unlikely they will be able to remove the other quality batsmen that cheaply.
Ian Bell remains at an 11/4 to grab a century in either innings - something that will be required if England are actually going to win the test.
