Should Spieth actually pull off this tremendous honour, it would also set him up to become the first to secure a natural grand slam by winning the US Open, British Open, Masters and the PGA Championship - something that would etch the young America’s name into the golfing history books for eons to come.
It’s very hard to top American Pharoah’s coveted horse racing Triple Crown this year, but some would likely put this incredible feat even higher than that - such is the impossibility of it actually happening.
One of the biggest stories coming into the tournament is definitely the absence of Rory McIlroy - whom many bookmakers had considered to be the outright favourite to secure the 2015 Open Championship. McIlroy had been playing very well as of late and is a real specialist at this course so it’s logical to conclude that he had every right to be the betting favourite.

One of the things that we have seen with Spieth is the fact that once he gets at or near the lead he tends to stay on there and even if he drops a few strokes here and there, he is able to conjure something up and hit birdies when you’d only expect him to challenge for par.
There is a lot to like about his chances and the lack of McIlroy makes this all the easier for Spieth,
