Right now the bookmakers have Dustin Johnson in the lead as the most likely winner but things still look absolutely wide open with both he and Henrik Stenson carding -5 performances on the opening day.

As it currently stands, Johnson continues at an 11/2 price tag while Stenson remains very competitive and just a small step behind him with a 15/2 margin. Coming into the tournament everybody was assuming that Jordan Spieth, the Masters winner, was going to be come in and make a real statement.

In fact, a number of top bookmakers were putting together w/o Spieth markets but it remains to be seen whether we will actually need one of those. Interestingly enough, Johnson trades at 9/2 in that particular market right now while Henri Stenson is priced at a 6/1 margin - that actually reflects a good amount of value if you expect Spieth to mount a deeper challenge as we get closer to the final day.

There are still a number of different players out on the course so it’s difficult to really get a gauge on where things will be on Friday but you can bank on a number of big swings in the odds on the way there. Tiger Woods has just bogeyed both of his opening holes and the bookmakers have rushed to place him in frame not to make the cut at the US Open.
