3rd Ashes Test Betting Preview Part 4
- By A.J. Ryder on July 24, 2013 17:15 GMTAshton Agar is a 6/1 shot to be named the top bowler for Australia but the factor they should be really concerned with is their inability to perform with the bat when necessary. So many Australian Ashes performances throughout the years were punctuated by players digging in when absolutely needed to and grinding out results.

Michael Clarke must set the example in the next test and he is trading as the outright favourite for the Australians to lead their first innings score. He is 11/4 to record the highest total and you do have to reckon that the top end of the order is due for a performance. Shane Watson has not been productive up to this point and he is still getting favoured by the bookmakers at a 4/1 price tag.
Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott are both favoured at the same price to be named as the top England 1st innings batsmen. They are available at a 7/2 price and both are due to put in a big knock. Joe Root does appear to be the form player and if you think he can repeat his excellent performance in the second test then you can lock in a quality price of 4/1.
Ian Bell has been the key man, particularly in the first test, when England needed steadying and he is 5/1 to put in another big effort here and emerge as top first innings batsmen. He seems to be the player that Australia consistently struggle to remove and he will be brimming with confidence coming into this one.
The most telling betting market for the third test is the 1st innings lead market - England are favoured at a very short 1/2. In the first test, this market was nearly even. That tells you how the Australians are really doing.
