Ashes First Test Betting Update
- By A.J. Ryder on November 25, 2017 18:21 GMTAfter a really fascinating couple of days at the Gabba with some solid twists and turns happening - exactly what you’d expect in the Ashes - we are poised with Australia looking like they are in the drivers’ seat to secure a victory in the first contest for the coveted urn.
With Steve Smith digging in exactly when he needed to in order to keep Australia alive after knocking a ton in a dramatic tail ender stand, he helped Australia put about 40 runs or so on England when it looked like they were reeling and could go into the next round behind.
The pitch was especially lively on day one and England were bowled out for just around 300 or so, which had many thinking that the Aussies would be able to dig in and put together some really good batting to stack 480 or 500 on England but that failed to materialize.
The test match still appears poised for either side to get the victory but you’ll find that the bookmakers have floated Australia at a price of around 4/9 for the win while England can be backed at a 9/2 margin. Considering the speed and effectiveness with which they were able to rip into the middle order - only to have Smith come to the hosts rescue - England shouldn’t be counted out at this point in the match by any margin.
The draw can be backed at an 11/2 margin and probably shouldn’t be ruled out either.
Steve Smith has also been clipped down to as low as a 4/11 margin to be named as the top Australian batsman for the Ashes series. And you’ll find Joe Root ranking as the top choice for England with a much longer 15/8 price tag. Alastair Cook is a ways back at 11/2.
