After England had a disastrous fifth day at Edgbaston to hand the first test of the 2019 Ashes to the Australian side, the bookmakers are already starting to turn their attention to the second test which has rapidly become a must-win contest for England.

It looks as though Lord’s will see a few changes in the England side and virtually all cricketing observers have to admit that the loss of Jimmie Anderson really got England off to the worst possible start in the last test. The two centuries from Steve Smith kept the Aussies in line when they were starting to flounder and that proved to be decisive. 

Moments like those tend to be broken by world class wicket takers like Anderson and not having him available the bowl at Smith really left England a bit of a neutered unit for the Edgbaston test. 

A few better performances with the bat, particularly in the second innings would have been instrumental for this England side as well so several new faces will likely make an impression at Lord’s 

The bookmakers don’t see much between either team right now and you’ll find the England and Australian sides both available at a best price of around 6/5 for the second test. The draw tends to reward at about a 7/1 listing and that’s not a bad price if you reckon that the weather will play a more decisive part in this test than it did in the opener.
