ATP ROGERS CUP LIVE BETTING ACTION DAVYDENKO vs. CHARDY
The third round clash between Nikolay Davydenko and Jeremy Chardy strikes an interesting pose in the tennis betting market, so much so, that you cannot, NOT take notice.
In the one corner, there is Nikita, an established top player that is a credible threat to the powers that be in tennis and by virtue of ranking and status in the game is the favourite.
He is, however, after a serious wrist injury that saw him sit out a good chunk of the early season, and, since returning to action, is still not at his best.
In the other corner, there is Chardy, a player that reeks of potential but hasn’t quite yet figured out how to fulfil expectations made on his behalf.
Nevertheless, he is after his biggest win on the season, beating Verdasco in a right nail-biter in the Rogers Cup second round.
William Hill has several open markets on this match; the foremost market is that on the outright win. Davydenko is a 4/9 favourite while Chardy is a 13/8 puppy.
Against Verdasco, Chardy was a 6/4 puppy and he proved to be the value bet. At a fraction more of the cost, can he prove the same?
In theory, I do believe so. Chardy only trails Davydenko 0-1 lifetime. So, not at all a discouraging mark. There is room for optimism here.
They met at the 2009 Hamburg R16 and Davydenko beat Chardy 6-3, 6-3 en route to the title. Chardy can take some positives from that match. He wasn’t thumped. He just didn’t play the crucial points well.
Yesterday, he did what he should have done against Davydenko then. He played exceptionally well and crucially, he won the important points and came back from a set down to boot 6-7(7), 7-6(5), 6-2.
This was a great match for Chardy to win, and a great match I might add for fans of Live Betting to follow because it delivered high drama, excitement and oscillating markets with plenty of angles for profit.
Of course, a match like that can be emotionally taxing so it remains to be seen how well Chardy will handle the emotional highs and lows following such a victory. In addition, it will be interesting to see where his form truly lies.
Surely, he should have confidence after such a big win and if he parlays that confidence into another winning performance, then won’t he secure himself a quarterfinal spot at a Masters Series event.
