Barcelona vs. Sporting Gijon: Updates and Tips
- By Adam Currie on September 22, 2010 18:12 GMTBarcelona play host to Sporting Gijon this evening in what is expected to be a largely one-sided affair
The most interesting thing about this clash tonight with be David Villa’s reaction in lining up against his boyhood club.
Villa began his career with the club, making a name for himself prior to departing for Real Zaragoza in 2003.
However, all sentiment seems to have gone out the window for the Spanish striker having scored in three of his last four matches against his former club.
Barcelona will be ensuring a win this evening, as they simply have to win in order to maintain the pressure on rival Spanish giants Real Madrid- who will be at least a point clear of their rivals regardless of the result at the Nou Camp.
With Barcelona suffering a shock defeat to La Liga minnows Hercules in their last game, the superstar laden XI will be taking the attack to Sporting.
This match can only go one way...and that is a Barcelona win. Sporting's away form is atrocious this year, recording just a single win in 17 matches on the road.
This will be a massive win for Barca.
