Ronaldo To Miss 2-3 Weeks
- By Juan Arango on March 21, 2011 03:28 GMTJose Mourinho’s worst case scenario came to life after Cristiano Ronaldo aggravated his quadriceps injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Atlético Madrid. The severity of the injury was confirmed via an MRI as it showed a grade I tear in his biceps femoris. The injury will have him out between 2-3 three weeks according to the Madrid medical staff.
The Real Madrid website announced that the Portuguese international will be out of action or the next two to three weeks as the team wants him to be back for away leg of the Champions League quarterfinals against Spurs.
This injury has been nagging the league’s leading since Madrid 7-0 win against Málaga. He missed the following two matches but returned to the lineup against Lyon. He would play 76 minutes in that match as the Merengues would come up with a 3-0 win at the Bernabéu. This would end a six-year quarterfinals jinx for Madrid in that competition.
Despite the injury and his unavailability, Ronaldo will still travel to join his Portugal teammates as they get ready to face Chile on March 26th and Finland on the 29th in a series of friendlies that O Selecção would have as they prepare to resume their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign as they have a crucial Group H encounter against Norway on June 4th.
Ronaldo would miss the upcoming encounter against Sporting at the Santiago Bernabéu. Madrid would also have him available for the stretch run that will include a brutal road schedule that includes Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, Valencia, and Villarreal on top of two confirmed encounters against Barcelona in the league and the Copa del Rey final four days later.
Ronaldo is the team’s leading scorer with 27 goals, tied with Lionel Messi atop the race for the Pichichi award that will be handed out to the top scorer in the league at the end of the season.
