Berbatov can be the Main Man
- By Lewis Doe on April 12, 2011 07:22 GMTDimitar Berbatov could be one of the players who slips under the radar as all of the focus for this huge match will be on others.
Berbatov took his chance to play in the Premier League over the weekend with both hands and scored a goal which could lead to him starting in this contest. Berbatov has been sitting on the bench over the last few weeks but he has attributes which make him difficult to play against.
The Bulgarian striker is much better at holding up the ball than a lot give him credit for. There could be times in this game when Wayne Rooney is forced to drop into midfield to provide an extra body if Chelsea are having too much of the ball. When the ball gets hit long for Berbatov, he’s very good at holding it up before laying it off and getting into the box to score a goal.
His height will also be an advantage for this game. It could be a tight contest and United will start getting twitchy the longer they go without reinforcing their lead. Any cross or corner can be utilised by Berbatov because he is such a tall player and the slightest of glances or flicks could ultimately make the difference in a tight game.
Attitude on the pitch has always been a concern with this player. However, he seems to have enjoyed the chance to play in Europe for one of the biggest teams on the continent. He is at his happiest when he has authority over the attacking side of the United side and if it gets the club through, he’ll get enjoy authority in abundance during this game.
Berbatov is also a lot fitter than people give him credit for. This will make the difference if the game goes down to the wire and enters the final few minutes with all results still possible. It could be the difference between him latching onto a chance and missing it.
