Blackburn vs Manchester United Betting Preview

It looks all to be set up on a platter for Sir Alex Ferguson's men as they get ready for the fixture that could push them five points clear of cross-town rivals Manchester City. At this point in time they are the only plausible contenders for the Premier League crown, having wrested control of the trophy to United by dropping points for the first time in a long time just a week or two back.

Now United face off against a resurgent Blackburn side who have really pulled themselves out of the rut they were in for most of the season. Protests by fans, an ownership group that seemed disconnected from the task at hand, as well as a relatively unproven manager at Premiership level all combined to produce a perfect storm that would have seen nearly any other person sacked, but not Steve Kean. He's rallied the side and have them producing much more coherent performances.
Blackburn have long been considered a bogey team for United and they nearly always seem to take points off them in crucial matches at this stage of the season. The Red Devils have been stringing together some really solid performances though, doing just enough to win every time provided they're not in Europe or a cup competition.
Should United get the win in this one it certainly takes the pressure off of their de facto season deciding clash at the Emirates as even a loss there would still have United two points ahead though behind on goal difference.
Wayne Rooney has definitely been in the goals this year and it's no surprise to see him trading as the 11/4 favourite to open the scoring today. He's been getting plenty of opportunities with a younger United side that is still very much trying to find it's feet on occasion but can produce moments of sheer brilliance at the drop of a hat.
United go into the fixture with a relatively short price of 2/5 with Blackburn trading at a full 7/1 listing. If there is anybody expected to put a dent in United's title hopes tonight, you can bet that City will be cheering on Yakubu to trouble United's rearguard – who have, admittedly, looked absolutely stellar over the past few weeks despite the season-long absence of Nemanja Vidic.
This one will likely be pretty close and a 1-0 result to Fergie's men might just be the order of the day. You can back the correct score at 7/1.
