Berbatov Looking to Cash in

Berbatov could do nothing but sit back and admire as Wayne Rooney slammed in a brace against Aston Villa during mid-week. However, the Bulgarian has carried the United attack for much of the season and he should be determined to show Rooney that he’s still the number one striker.
Berbatov is a very versatile attacking player and this has allowed Sir Alex Ferguson to play him and Rooney together in attack for most of the season. They are not stupid strikers and have the ability to do the opposite of what their strike partner is doing in the middle of the game.
This means Berbatov has been able to latch on to more chances because he’s played different roles in attack. He has the height advantage out of All United’s attacking players. When Ferguson has needed a man to play up top by himself, Berbatov has been the ideal candidate.
The Bulgarian is also very good at dropping off from the very front of the attack into pockets of space. This pulls the player marking him out of the defence and creates gaps for other attacking players to exploit.
Berbatov will also still have the feelings of last season fresh in his mind. He played second fiddle to Rooney for the whole campaign, often sitting on the bench and watching Rooney perform his magic. It’s no secret that Berbatov cut a very unhappy and slightly worried figure during last season.
He will be very determined to make sure that a resurged Wayne Rooney plays around him as much as the other way around. This will stop any chance of Berbatov sitting on the bench for the rest of the season. If anything the United striker is just going to get stronger as he will have to raise his game to stay ahead.
