Chelsea and Arsenal in Champions League Action

The Champions League is finally back in full swing and there is plenty to be excited about this year with the usual suspects still in the frame to challenge for the trophy. However, at this stage we're always set for a few upsets and an introduction to a new slate of unpronounceable Eastern European teams.

Chelsea and Arsenal are both in action on Tuesday evening and both are facing off against high-profile German opposition. Chelsea host Bayer Leverkusen and are the significant favourites to take the victory with a 4/9 outright price being floated by most major bookmakers.

Bayer Leverkusen have some quality players and their lengthy 7/1 odds may be more than enough to tempt a few neutral punters to bet on a Blues blunder. The 3/1 draw would not be enough for Andre Villas-Boas' men and there is only one result that will please the fans.

Arsenal have not had the best start to this season and Arsene Wenger was able to satiate the fans by some astute late signings in the transfer window to shore up a side that was completely exposed by Manchester United the week before. The biggest moves in are Per Mertesacker (who will feel more than comfortable playing in Germany) and Mikel Arteta, who was the only Arsenal player to really acquit himself well in the league this weekend.

Borussia Dortmund are at home to the Gunners and they trade at even money to get the three points in this one. Arsenal to pull off a big away win is paying out a hefty 11/4 price tag. Expect plenty of action from Gunners fans who want to see their Champions League campaign get off to a proper start.

There has been plenty of time in the past when observers declared Arsenal a more dangerous team in Europe than they were in the Premier League. We could see this go into effect again this year and a sustained European challenge would likely make up, just slightly, for an underwhelming Premier League campaign.
