England are 1/7 Favourites to Retain The Ashes
- By A.J. Ryder on June 26, 2013 14:41 GMTA slew of UK-based bookmakers have priced Alastair Cook’s men as the distinct 1/7 favourites to secure the Ashes during the upcoming cricket series. The Australians are on British soil and are tangling with some county teams as they look to build up their momentum and stroll home with an emphatic, against-all-odds victory in the world’s most important cricket tournament.

As it currently stands, William Hill is pricing England as low as 1/7 to retain the Ashes (which also includes a series draw as the holding side retain the Ashes in the event of a draw).
The “No” option, an Australian victory, pays out at 4/1 at this point and you can expect that price to drift up even higher if England open up the first test with a solid, composed performance.
While it’s quite clear that the bookmakers are already pricing Australia out of contention this year in the Ashes, you can definitely start looking ahead with your wagers if you are looking to grab a solid price on the next iteration of the world’s most famous cricket tournament.
They might be 4/1 to win it this time, but the Australians are only 2/1 to win the Ashes in Australia in 2013/14. That’s a distinctly better price but one that may prove foolhardy for some as many considered the Aussies to be unbeatable at home the last time they played - England left Australia still holding the Ashes.
The Aussies are 7/2 to next win the Ashes in 2017/18 in Australia while a win in England in 2015 would pay out in the are of 7/1. Any other series would reward at 11/4.
