Any Ashes player to take a double century would pay out in the neighbourhood of 13/8 and there are probably four players in the whole tournament who might be capable of doing something like that. Ian Bell is definitely one of them if he can get a good slow pattern about his game as he tends to rack up scores without really doing anything with a flourish. A workmanlike 200 isn’t out of the realm of possibilities with him.
In regards to the upcoming Lord’s test, we are looking at England still floating at an odds-on price but not quite as heavily as the previous contest. Heading into the opening fixture of the Ashes, England were available at an 8/11 margin while they are now a slightly more tepid 5/6. You can expect that price to swing pretty substantially if things don’t necessarily go according to plan in the next test match.
Unsurprisingly, James Anderson is considered the significant favourite to win the Man of the Match award for the Lord’s test as well with bookmakers putting him at a price of 7/1 going into this next one. Alastair Cook, who didn’t really excel but put in a decent performance in the opener, trades as the second favourite with a 10/1 listing.
Graeme Swann didn’t really get going in the first test and will be looking to do more in his next outing. The bookmakers feel as though he may influence the match and have placed him at 12/1 alongside Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Michael Clarke and Shane Watson.
