England Looking for Series Whitewash

The bookies are favouring a draw but the English captain Andrew Strauss is aiming for nothing short of a victory to ensure a 4-0 series whitewash against the former #1 test side India. With an eye firmly-fixed on the fall test matches, the last test against India (set to unfold at the Oval) looks to be an opportunity for several players to make statements for selection.

The biggest one, or at least the player the most under the gun, seems to be Ravi Bopara who was drafted in to cover the injury to Jonathan Trott - whose place in the side is certainly not under threat. Bopara didn't come in with a huge amount to do in the third test (his first) but was promptly removed lbw for a grand total of 7 runs.

England are priced at 11/8 for the outright test victory while India is listed at a lengthy 5/1 to turn it around. That looks doubtful from the perspective of many observers – such has been the thoroughness of the three English victories.

The favoured outcome, the draw, trades at even money.

Chris Tremlett is confirmed to be out of the fourth test and question marks have emerged over top of James Anderson's fitness so Graham Onions has been drafted into the squad. Onions had earned some plaudits in previous tests and has been playing extremely well in county cricket.

Following Alastair Cook's absolutely incredible knock of nearly 300, he is getting firm backing to be named as the man of the match. Ladbrokes have him priced at 10/1 to do so with Stuart Broad, Tendulkar, Anderson, Bresnan, KP, Strauss and Sehwag all priced at 12/1.

The over/under on first innings runs for England is set at 410.5 while India's over/under is available at 350.5.

The action gets underway at The Oval on Thursday.
