Gibson Ready to Take Advantage of Rare Chance
- By Lewis Doe on February 18, 2011 07:43 GMTManchester United midfield player Darron Gibson should be relishing a rare chance to dominate the team against Crawley Town.
Gibson has not been first choice in the Manchester United side and has been struggling to make the impact this season that he may have desired. Gibson is an extremely talented player who can play in the middle of the team or out wider.
It’s his skills on the wing that should be employed during this game due to the fact that Park Ji-Sung is now out of action with a hamstring injury for at least a month. This means Gibson will be playing for his place ahead of important Premier League and Champions League games.
Gibson is capable of scoring a goal at various times in a match because he deploys different skills in different areas. When United are trying to wear down their opponents, Gibson is good enough to play little passes into the striker, feed the other midfielders and get crosses into the box.
However, he is also effective when running and shooting at a defence. Gibson has one of the strongest shots of any player in the United team and this makes him a threat when he shoots from distances just outside the penalty area of the opposition.
Gibson’s physical attributes are something else that Sir Alex Ferguson will be relying on in this match against Crawley. When sides play better and bigger opponents, the natural tactic is to be more aggressive to counter the quality that the bigger side possesses.
Gibson isn’t a small man by any means and his strength and power has developed over the last two to three years. This means he’ll be able to hold off more challenges when he gets into the dangerous areas of the pitch. Crawley will be doing anything they can to stop United and it’s important Gibson can take a bit of punishment during the game.
Gibson is very good at set pieces and strikes a dead ball extremely well. This will be key if United get free kicks around the Crawley penalty area. If Gibson hits a free kick purely then there is no way that anyone goalkeeper will stop the ball.
Gibson is 9/1 to score first and 23/10 to score at any time.
