Giggs Will Provide Level Head
- By Lewis Doe on March 4, 2011 07:26 GMTRyan Giggs will be one of the calmest players on the pitch when Manchester United take on Liverpool at Anfield this weekend.
Giggs is setting all sorts of records as a Manchester United player and he’s taken part in many fixtures similar to this one in the past. This means Giggs will have an air of calm and assurance around him when the two great rivals of English football lock horns.
Giggs will be a great player for Sir Alex Ferguson to start with because he’s very good in possession of the football. United could face a lot of pressure during the game and it’ll be important that players like Giggs can get on the ball and keep hold of it during these spells.
Giggs is fantastic at bring other players into the game and creating space. He does this in very subtle ways when he plays out wide such as moving in off the wing to drag the full back away and leave space in behind. He’s most effective playing in the midfield but this is the sort of thing he can do just in behind a main striker.
The winger is also going to be dangerous from set plays around the Liverpool penalty area. Giggs is up there with the best free kick takers that have ever graced Manchester United. It wouldn’t be a surprise in the slightest to see him rattle the ball in from 20 yards if United can force Liverpool into giving away free kicks in dangerous areas.
Giggs now lacks a little bit of pace due to his age but his shooting ability is still as great as it ever has been. Giggs could play down the right of the United side at times during the game because this would allow him to come inside and onto his stronger left foot.
It will be very easy for Liverpool to focus on the likes of Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Nani as the main threats from United but Giggs could make them pay if there is a lack of respect.
