Manchester United going for Everton Victory.

Everton pay a visit to Old Trafford

Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways after a defeat in the FA Cup and a disappointing 0-0 draw away at Newcastle in the league.

United need to win this game to keep the gap from Arsenal as big as possible. The current league leaders are still to play Arsenal away and Chelsea at home in the Premier League. A cushion will help if results in these games do not go as perfectly as all United fans will be hoping for.

Rio Ferdinand should return to the United defence for the visit of Everton. Sir Alex Ferguson admitted the only reason Ferdinand was not playing against Newcastle is because it seemed as though he needed a rest after playing two games in four days.

Ferdinand coming back into the side would mean an extra air of calm and assurance against a talented attacking outfit. Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have one of the best defensive partnerships in world football and Ferdinand can still play a big part in helping United towards the title.

John O’Shea could continue at right back as Rafael Da Silva is still struggling with a slight hamstring problem. O’Shea played well against Newcastle and got into some advanced attacking positions. It was only Nani’s reluctance to play him in that stopped the Ireland international from setting up some good chances.

Nani could make way for Park Ji-Sung due to the performance of the Portuguese against Newcastle. Nani looked typically lively in the last game but his selfishness was on full throttle as he missed the chance to set up some glorious chances for his teammates. Park is also more likely to work with the full back coming forward.

Paul Scholes’ place should be taken up by Ryan Giggs in the middle of the pitch as Darren Fletcher is still not quite fit enough to play a full part in proceedings. Scholes was banned following the red card he picked up in the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City. Michael Carrick will continue to sit in front of the back four.

Dimitar Berbatov was also missing from the United side that played Newcastle. Ferguson said before the game he was planning to use the Bulgarian striker from the start but he complained of feeling ill around mid-afternoon and there was no point in risking him. Berbatov should still be full of determination to show he’s one of the main strikers at the club.

Fletcher could face a late fitness test before this game if Ferguson decides he wants to try and include his key midfielder. Owen Hargreaves has been ruled out for the rest of the season but other than the former Bayern Munich man, there are no major injury concerns.
