Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Betting Preview

Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side face arguably the easiest draw left in the 2011/12 Carling Cup when facing off against Crystal Palace tomorrow. The Red Devils were the victims of a very controversial penalty as they were held 1-1 against Newcastle United. United will be banking on picking up some silverware in this competition but the next stage of the competition certainly looks much more difficult than this one.

At this point in time, the bookmakers have the utmost confidence in United being able to get the job done, especially at Old Trafford. As it currently stands, you'll find United trading at a slim 2/9 price tag while Crystal Palace can be backed at a lengthy 12/1.
Even the draw rewards at 5/1 and that would only see us in through extra time.
The gamble appears to be whether United will get in there early and finish the job in the first half. United have a bad habit of leaving it late against lower-profile sides. They also tend to score a single goal in the first five minutes and attempt to win the match 1-0.
It also remains to be seen if Fergie will give some time to a few alternative players in this League Cup fixture. Dimitar Berbatov will likely get the start here and it's just a matter of whom he's paired up with. The Bulgarian trades at 5/2 to open the scoring while Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez (good bets to start on the bench) are favoured at 2/1, apiece.
Danny Welbeck is also in the frame at a 5/2 price and don't forget about Federico Macheda at 7/2.
If Fergie is going to start several younger players you will probably expect to see Ryan Giggs adding some experience and influence in the centre of the park. Ryan Giggs is an impressive 7/1 to open the scoring on Wednesday.
