Nani Could be the Key against West Ham
- By Lewis Doe on April 1, 2011 07:58 GMTNani is going to be one of Manchester United’s most important players as the season starts to draw to a close.
Nani should have only just been returning from the horrible leg gash injury that he picked up during the defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League. However, he is fully fit and fighting hard for United on all fronts.
Nani has been one of, if not, the best wide players at the club this season. He seems to have matured a lot faster than many at the club would have hoped for and he will undoubtedly be a dangerous weapon in the match against West Ham.
Nani will be crucial for this game because of his pace and skill in the wide areas of the pitch. Despite West Ham’s league position, they always raise their game against opponents of this calibre. This could force the away side into getting the ball out wide as quickly as possible as a release from the pressure they are likely to face.
Nani is a key individual when it comes to set pieces and dead ball situations. He has spent a lot of time working on improving the way he strikes the ball at corners and free kicks. If there is a free kick for United on the edge or near the West Ham penalty area, the Portuguese will be one of the players lining up to take it.
The Portuguese can play on either side of the pitch which means Sir Alex Ferguson can mix things up if his winger isn’t having success down one side. Nani is good at going past the full back and putting crosses into the box and he’s also very good at coming back inside and raining shots in on goal.
Vision is now a big part of Nani’s game and it’s something that he has worked a lot on. Nani can read the game a lot better than he could when he first arrived at United. This means he can realise the perfect times to drop his wide position and get into the central areas where he is more likely to score a goal.
