Nani Looking to Tear Apart City
- By Lewis Doe on February 11, 2011 08:16 GMTPortuguese winger Nani will be looking to maintain his good form against arch rivals Manchester City this weekend.
Nani scored United’s only goal in the 2-1 defeat away at Wolves and was one of the very few players at the club to come out of that game with any credit. The winger seems to have matured and developed into a very good player at this level and seems to be enjoying his football.
Nani’s goal against Wolves was his eighth of the season and he is looking a better player than ever before in a Manchester United shirt. There are many qualities that Nani is now able to show on a regular basis that make him the first choice winger at the club.
The Portuguese can play effectively in any system whether it’s 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or a narrower 4-3-3. This takes away one selection problem from Sir Alex Ferguson because he knows Nani can play down either wing of the pitch and in any formation.
Nani also seems to have developed physically. He is a lot stronger and more built up than when he first arrived at the club. He also seems one or two yards faster and pace at any level of football is a dangerous asset to possess. Some have started to draw comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo when he was first at United as a young wide player.
The winger also has a total of ten assists in the Premier League this season, which suggests he is getting better at bringing other players into a game. He is able to come inside and create space for the full back to run into. His crossing is better than it has ever been before, which means he can set up a striker for an easy goal if he gets into an advanced position.
Nani is showing his experience at the correct and vital moments when it is needed. He no longer looks like a rabbit caught in headlights when he comes up against a big defensive unit. This is important for the success of the team but also to the next generation of players who will be looking up to him.
