Rafa Nadal Now Considered Favourite for 2011 Australian Open Win
- By A.J. Ryder on January 20, 2011 23:35 GMTOn the heels of a major scare for Roger Federer, Spanish star Rafael Nadal has now been installed as the slim favourite to win the ongoing Australian Open. Federer had a serious slip up against Gilles Simon, which would up sending their fixture to five sets, and this has seen his quest for 20 major championships take a significant hit if the odds are to be believed.
As it currently stands, punters will find Nadal still well-priced at 2.62 for the outright victory while Federer can be backed at a 2.75 listing. This is a slight fluctuation from where things were on Tuesday when Federer was shorter-priced than Nadal is at the moment.
Scotland’s Andy Murray emerged unscathed from his recent fixture and he still shares a 9.0 price for the outright victory with Novak Djokovic.
The prospect of a Federer/Nadal final continues to loom large but punters can expect the Swiss master to be a strong “lay” option on the exchanges.
Robin Soderling is the only other contender with a plausible price, currently floating around 17.0.
Federer faces a slightly easier task in his next encounter and he’ll be tackling Xavier Malisse in a few hours. Federer is a slim 1/33 for the win while Nadal takes on Bernard Tomic in the next round.
