Rafael Nadal’s Australian Open quarter-final fixture kicks off in a few hours time and the Spaniard is heavily-favoured to get the result over David Ferrer. Nadal remains the one to beat despite an extremely encouraging showing from Roger Federer against Stan Wawrinka to set up his semi-final clash with perennial challenger Novak Djokovic.
Federer didn’t get things off to the best of starts in this major championship but it appears as though punters looking to bet against Nadal are still able to lock in a quality price on the Swiss master. Bookmakers continue to float Federer as high as 2/1 against Nadal’s 11/8 listing to win his next Grand Slam.
The field has been rapidly narrowed down to a list of the usual suspects with Djokovic and Scotland’s Andy Murray, the only other contenders listed at a plausible price to win the prestigious tournament. Murray gets a slim edge at 9/2 against Djokovic’s 5/1.
Andy Murray faces upstart Alexandr Dolgopolov in his quarter-final and he is expected to progress safely en route to a semi-final clash with Nadal.
Caroline Wozniacki’s victory yesterday wasn’t convincing for the bookmakers and they have placed Li Na as the favourite to win the upcoming clash between those two. Woz remains the third favourite to take the women’s singles division and she trades at a 4/1 price to do so. Kim Clijsters remains the favourite at 5/4.
