Rooney can vent Frustrations
- By Lewis Doe on April 19, 2011 06:46 GMTWayne Rooney will return to the Manchester United side full of determination after he was powerless to prevent the loss against Manchester City.
Rooney has just served a two match ban for his goalscoring celebration antics after he completed his hat-trick against West Ham United at Upton Park. Fortunately for Manchester United, they get their best player back at the vital time where he can make a difference in the only way he knows how.
It’s frightening to think of how angered, annoyed and frustrated Rooney was by the two match ban that was given to him. There were television cameras on him throughout the FA Cup semi-final against City and he was not cutting a very happy or relaxed figure.
He should start this game because he’s had a brief rest and it’s vitally important that United keep the gap on Arsenal as big as they can for when they have to eventually play the Gunners at the Emirates later this season. Rooney is good enough to play in a two man attack against Newcastle or up top on his own.
It will be interesting to see if Sir Alex Ferguson uses Rooney in the same way that he used him for the second Champions League tie against Chelsea. In that particular game Rooney was given no clear instructions and an effective free role in behind Javier Hernandez who played at the very top of the team.
Rooney is extremely effective at getting into space which has been created by his teammates making runs and moving to receive a pass. This is difficult to defend against because it pulls players out of position and leaves gaping holes in the defence.
Rooney is very effective when he turns and runs straight at an opposition defence. His passing is also good enough that he can play a type of advanced Xavi at Barcelona role when he plays just behind someone else. It wouldn’t be a surprise in the slightest if Rooney plays this role and is pictured celebrating at some point during the game.
