United Hope in Hernandez
- By Lewis Doe on April 26, 2011 07:03 GMTIt is going to be a very big night in Germany for Manchester United’s Mexican striker who could help put his side through to the final.
Hernandez has been the surprise package at the club this season. He has come into the team and instantly started scoring goals in all competitions and against all defences of differing quality.
Furthermore he has been doing all of the above with a smile on his face which has won him a lot of admirers besides from the people with a grudge against the club. He will win even more admiration if he manages to get a goal against the mid-table German side.
Hernandez is most likely to play with Wayne Rooney in a two man attack for this game. Out of the pair Hernandez is going to stay on the very fringe of the defence while Rooney will have to drop into the midfield at times to take the pressure off of the central players.
Hernandez’s football game is all about pace and this is why he’s able to constantly trouble a defence. His fitness is superb for a man of his size which means he can get into a sprint instantly whether it’s the first minute or the last. He can use this effectively against Schalke because the whole side will be pressing forward.
Schalke will prove a lot more resilient and tough to break down than United may be expecting which means a piece of improvisation could turn out to be the difference on the night. Hernandez is like former United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy in the respect that he can score a goal at any time inside the box.
His Premier League effort against Stoke even showed that he can use the back of his head to score a goal if needs be.
A lot of the focus and attention is going to be on other players in the United side in this Champions League game which means Hernandez has to step up and exploit the weakness in the Schalke team if they ignore him.
Schalke could be thinking about Rooney, Nani, Giggs, Scholes and many more but it could be down to the Mexican to make the difference.
