United vs Aldershot in League Cup Action

Manchester United will be looking to get things back on track today after, arguably, one of their greatest losses in the clubs lengthy history. Being absolutely hided 6-1 by cross-town arch-rivals Manchester City at home last weekend, Sir Alex Ferguson was quick to label it his worst day ever as a manager.

Surely the training ground has not been a pleasant place to be since then and the fact remains that Sir Alex is where he is for a reason – and that is his ability to triumph over adversity.
United aren't exactly up against it in this fixture today but you can probably expect a few higher-profile players to be lining up in this one, likely due to either punishment or they've been offered a lifeline to prove themselves before heading down into the reserves.
United have made mistakes in cup competitions in the past, particularly against lower-profile sides. Many of us likely remember the 0-0 at Exeter a few years ago.
As it currently stands, Manchester United is trading at a 2/9 price tag for the outright win. Aldershot are priced at 12/1 for the upset victory and they might actually consider this one a much more winnable fixture if the shock from the weekend hasn't worn off yet.
A draw for this one trades at a 5/1 listing and many Aldershot fans might consider that to be a more plausible outcome than you might think – especially if they can take it into half-time 0-0.
Dimitar Berbatov is getting the edge from the bookmakers as the betting favourite to score in this one as he trades at 7/2 to open the scoring. Danny Welbeck trades at a similar price while the likes of Darron Gibson and Park Ji-Sung are also in the mix at 10/ and 12/1 respectively.
United must begin turning it around and if they slip up against Aldershot, things could certainly go from bad to worse.
