William Hill Bonus and 2012 Open Championship Betting Preview

Tiger Woods is well-fancied to win the latest iteration of the Open Championship and his turning-back-the-years performances from the past couple of tournaments have seen the bookmakers clip his price as we get closer to the opening tee off.

Royal Lytham & St Anne's is the host course for this prestigious European major championship.

This year's contest will offer up a massive £5,000,000 prize pool with £900,000 alone going to the winner. Needless to say, Tiger Woods might have a few bucks in the bank but he wouldn't turn up his nose at a sum like that.

You would reckon that winning a major and getting his chase of Jack Nicklaus' record back underway would be even more important within the context of his greater legacy. His putting and short game are tightening up at the right time and he was able to hold on in his last tournament by displaying some of his last-day heroics that made him so famous in the first place.

As it currently stands, Tiger Woods trades around 6/1 while his closest competition looks to be Lee Westwood at 12/1 and McIlroy trading at 14/1. Luke Donald is understandably in contention for this one and you can back him at a 16/1 margin.

A talented slew of golfers are trading at around 33/1 and there's a very good chance that the ultimate winner will come from this group. You'll find Martin Kaymer, Sergio Garcia, Phil Mickelson, Graeme McDowell, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler all trading at an identical price tag. Fowler would be a very interesting wild card for this one.

Other notables include Jason Dufner at 40/1, Ernie Els and Webb Simpson at 40/1 along with Steve Stricker and Bubba Watson both at 50/1. Francesco Molinari can be backed at 66/1 while Retief Goosen can be backed at 80/1.
