2010 Olympics 1500M Men’s Short Track Speed Skating Latest Odds
- By A.J. Ryder on February 14, 2010 03:42 GMTWe have the 1st heat of the Men's 1500m kicking off at the Richmond Skating Oval, and things are still as competitive as ever among the cadre of favourites for the gold medal.
This medal isn't awarded today, but the betting markets will close once the event starts, and there are so many solid options that, if you’re planning to punt on the short track, you can't afford to pass them up.
Lee Ho-Suk is the current favourite by a slim margin over countryman Lee Jung-Su. Ho-Suk is priced at 2.25 while Jung-Su is available at a 3.0 price tag. Lee Jung-Su is definitely more decorated than his rival, capturing silver in the 1000m and 1500m in Turin last time out.
South Korea are potentially poised to sweep the podium in more than one short-track event, so you can count on plenty of thrills, chills and (more than likely) spills.
Sung Si-Bak is priced at 5.0 and he scored in the World Championships in Salt Lake City back in 2008 in the 1500m, which bodes well for his chances here. He could be a major factor on your forecast betting, which we'll delve into in a second here.
Charles Hamelin, one of Canada's most widely-appreciated Olympians is priced at a very competitive 9.0, which makes him a solid each-way bet. Should one of the top 3 falter, I expect Hamelin to be well-poised to capitalize. This is your spoiler here, there's no doubt about it.
Apolo Anton Ohno is also the only other major contender with a price of 10.0. Seoung Il Kim trades at 21.0 while John Robert Celski can be backed at a 26.0 listing. Weilong Song, Jordan Malone and Yuri Confortola can all be backed at 41.0. Peter Gysel and Guillaume Bastille are trading at 51.0 while Jeffrey Simon and Travis Jayner are available at 67.0. Nicolas Bean brings up the rear at 81.0.
Your true dark horse here could be American Travis Jayner at a very solid price. He's over-laid at his current price, and is more than worth a bash if you feel like playing a wildcard.
One of the most exciting markets here is the head to head one between Lee Ho-Suk and Lee Jung-Su. You'll find the favourite at 1.55 with Jung-Su at a solid 2.3 price. Not much between Charles Hamelin against Apolo Ohno. The Canadian is listed at 1.80 with Ohno at 1.9. Hamelin trades at 1.9 to beat out Sung Si-Bak.
In the "Finishing Position" market at Ladbrokes, you're basically betting on an exacta- calling the top 2 in order. The top 2 contenders Ho-Suk/Jung-Su are listed at 4.0 while Jung-Su/Ho-Suk can be backed at 5.0.
There is an extensive number of selections here, and Canadian fans will appreciate the Charles Hamelin/Lee Ho-Suk at a solid 19.0. If Hamelin wins, there's a good chance that Ho-Suk will be right behind him, so that's going to add a lot of value to your proposition if you're going to back Hamelin. Be sure to jump over to Ladbrokes and have a closer look for yourself!
