2011 US Open Odds Heating Up

The latest iteration of the US Open is already starting to offer up plenty of interesting twists and turns with a number of the top names in action over the next few hours. One of the most notable stories to emerge was Maria Sharapova's scare against the UK's Heather Watson. Former world #1 Roger Federer managed to progress over Santiago Giraldo in straight sets despite looking rather shaky in the early part of the first set.

The current world #1 Novak Djokovic takes on the unfancied Conor Niland and he's getting backed at 1/500 to progress to the next stage. The fixture is set to kick off in the next few hours.
Djokovic was considered the outright favourite by some distance heading into the competition and it appears as though he has genuinely found his grove at the highest level. Previously many had considered him somebody poised to pounce on opportunities vacated by Federer or Nadal, but it has become clear that Djokovic is now the master of his own fate.
The assertive style of play he has been demonstrated as of late has been noted in major media across the world.
Andy Murray is set to take to the court on Wednesday and many UK-based bookmakers are offering up a variety of specials on the Scottish sensation. Ladbrokes is offering to refund all losing wagers on the tournament winner if Andy Murray goes on to win the 2011 US Open.
Venus Williams has also entered the tournament unseeded for the first time since 1997. She progressed smoothly and showed plenty of fight and verve while doing so. True believers in either Williams sister can still lock in quality prices on both of them should they expect a title challenge.
Look for Serena Williams to take on Bojana Jovanovski in action later on today, just don't expect a quality outright price – the American trades as low as 1/50.
Expect the odds to get much more competitive on the 2011 US Open as we draw closer to the later stages of the tournament.
