Adams v Winstanley Lakeside Final
- By Jaymes Monte on January 12, 2011 14:17 GMTMartin Adams takes on Dean Winstanley as he attempts to win his third BDO World title at the Lakeside Country Club this Sunday evening.
The contrast in experience between these two players couldn’t be greater. Adams, a two-time champion and three-time finalist, is playing in a record 18th Lakeside World Championship, Winstanley is making his debut at the event.
However, the level of their performances throughout the tournament have been on a much more even keel. Adams’ tournament three-dart average of 91.55 is only marginally better than Winstanley’s 90.20 whilst the rookie has 22 tournament 180s to the veteran’s 18.
Winstanley has shot up the BDO rankings this season after winning the English, German and Belgian Open events as well as a run to the quarter-finals of the World Masters and various other impressive results throughout the year.
But Adams remains the man to beat in the BDO organisation and is the bookmaker’s 8/15 favourite to win a third world title when the pair to take to the stage later this evening. Winstanley is a 15/8 chance to become the first debutant to win the event since Jelle Klaasen did so back in 2006.
With both players a little shaky on their doubles at times hitting the big numbers early in a leg could prove to be crucial. Winstanley is 3/4 to hit the most maximums in the match with Adams at 7/5 in the same market.
Tonight’s match draws a winter of top-class darting entertainment to a close. Lets hope that this match is befitting of what has been a thoroughly enjoyable four weeks of ‘arrer flinging.
