Chisnall in Action at Lakeside
- By Jaymes Monte on January 4, 2011 12:44 GMTLast year’s runner-up Dave Chisnall is in action at the BDO World Championships tonight as he takes on Gary Robson for a place in the quarter-finals of the event.
Chisnall will count himself a little lucky to still be in the event after scraping through his first round match against Steve West by the narrowest of margins. West had three darts at double top to eliminate last year’s beaten finalist, but, when he missed, Chissy stepped in to seal the victory.
The bookmakers now make him the 4/9 favourite to see off Robson in the next round and book a quarter-final match-up against either Martin Phillips or Joey ten Berge.
Phillips and ten Berge are also in second round action this evening. Both came through their first round matches with relative ease hitting near identical 86 three-dart averages en route to 3-0 victories.
Phillips was a semi-finalist at the event last year whilst ten Berge hasn’t made it past the first round in his two previous appearances here. And so it is the 50-year-old Welshman that has the edge in terms of experience and he also gets the nod from the bookmakers.
Phillips is generally available to back at odds of around 4/9 whilst the Dutchman, who is half his age, is a 7/4 shot.
The other game of the evening sees Stuart Kellett take on Jan Dekker. Kellett has taken the BDO by storm this year and raced up the rankings to number two in the world.
The 29-year-old posted a 94.35 average to beat the experienced Darryl Fitton 3-0 in the opening round and is as short as 1/5 to go through to the quarter-finals in his debut World Championships.
The outright betting sees Scott Waites as the clear 2/1 favourite after he powered past two-time World Champion Ted Hankey in the opening round.
